A Brief History

Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Higher Secondary School is a premium institute established in the year 1958, has been doing service to the children of Cortalim and surrounding villages mostly the underprivileged for the last 65 years. Established with a vision and a mission to provide holistic education and uplift the underprivileged children. Through the efforts and hardwork of Rev. Fr. Eugene Coutinho, the school served as the beacon of light for thousands of students, who are spread to world over and are shinning in different capacities. Some of it alumni have excelled in the society, that has made the school proud.
Rev. Fr. Eugene Coutinho had commence classes in the Parish house and later shifted in the Parish boarding, which is still existing. In the year 1965, the primary section was added and started functioning from the Parish house. In the year 2008, Fr. Loriandro Fernandes and his family generously donated their house and property to Cortalim Church wherein the primary section was shifted. Till date the primary section is running it’s classes from this beautiful ancestral house.
In the year 1973, through the efforts and hardwork of Fr. Eugene Coutinho and generous contribution by the villagers the school was blessed with a new building. Soon the school became popular for its academic, sports, extra curricular and co- curricular activities. Students enrolled from the surrounding villages of Quelossim, Rassaim, Loutalim, Consua, Sancoale, Verna, Nuvem.
In the year 2008, the school celebrated it’s golden jubilee and four more classroom were added on the occasion of Jubilee year. It was the effort of Rev. Fr. Jose Dias and generous contribution of the villagers.
In the year 2016, through the efforts of Rev. Fr. Diogo Manuel Fernandes and generous contribution of the villagers a new building was added to the school having 6 classrooms. This building was then dedicated to the Higher Secondary School. In 2016, the Higher Secondary School commenced with Art stream and in 2021, commerce stream was granted approval by the government. The school hopes that the government will grant approval for the science stream in the due course of time.
The entire campus, housing Pre- Primary, Primary, Secondary, Higher Secondary, St. Joseph Vaz College of Science and St. Joseph Vaz College of Education (D.Eld) having 1,277 number of students in the the entire campus. Our Lady of Perpetual Succour School is an educational hub where thousands of students have made their career and are shinning stars in different part of the world. The school continues to provide holistic education and transform them into estimable citizen of the country.
